Over the weekend I got the opportunity to spend some time at the National Multicultural Festival (NMF). Wow what a great weekend. So many people flocked into the city to taste the food, enjoy the entertainment and breathe in multicultural Canberra. I visited many of the stalls including the Kava tent (no I didn’t sample, although I was offered) watched the wonderful performances and sampled the delicious food. On Sunday I got to escort the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr Antonio Gutteres on a quick tour of the festival. Considering his long flight from Geneva (via London, Bankok, Sydney) he was gracious enough to spend an hour watching performances and talking with stall holders. What a great coincidence to have the High Commissioner here on the weekend when we celebrate our multicultural community. We were accompanied by Senator Kate Lundy, Minister Joy Burch, and MLA Mary Porter. We spoke with many of the stall holders, including the Sudanese Women, “White Nile’ Social Venures Australia.
To finish the tour off we got to meet country legend Troy Cassar Daley (see photo proof below).
What a weekend, it’s been a huge one for Canberra. Well done to all who helped pull it off.
Here are some of the photos.
