ACT Government pledges $50,000 following Haiti earthquakeActing Chief Minister Katy Gallagher announced $50,000 in emergency relief funding for Haiti following yesterday’s earthquake near the capital Port-au-Prince. The earthquake struck Haiti close to the capital around 9am (AEST) yesterday, with devastating consequences for the impoverished Caribbean nation “The reports out of Haiti indicate that this is a tragedy of enormous proportion which has left many of the region’s people dead, injured and homeless. “The thoughts of the ACT Government are with those affected at this very difficult time and we would like to offer this donation on behalf of the people of Canberra. “Of course, the ACT stands ready to assist with other forms of support and expertise should it be requested.” The donation will be made through the Red Cross.
