ACT Government thanks outgoing ClubsACT CEO Bob SamarcqACT Deputy Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher MLA, has today thanked ClubsACT CEO Bob Samarcq for his contribution to the club sector over the past eight years. Ms Gallagher was speaking at a function to farewell Mr Samarcq who is retiring. “Bob has been a tireless campaigner and advocate of club interests since he was appointed Chief Executive of ClubsACT in May 2001,” Ms Gallagher said. “Over the past eight years Mr Samarcq has contributed enormously to the sector, ensuring a prosperous club industry in the ACT. His efforts have not only benefitted members of the club community but also the ACT community as a whole. “In the last few years, Mr Samarcq has been instrumental in ensuring the continuation of the Clubcare program - a program that provides assistance to problem gamblers and promotes responsible harm minimisation strategies,” she said. “Bob’s dedication to this program has resulted in a $1 million commitment by ClubsACT and ACTTAB to the Clubcare program over a period of three years. “Bob has been the catalyst behind ClubsACT’s efforts to contribute to the community, particularly The Spastic Centre, which without Bob’s concerted efforts to assist, may not be operating in the ACT to the level that it is today.” On behalf of the ACT Government Ms Gallagher wished Mr Samarcq well in his retirement. 1 December 2009
