Health Minister announces $1.25 million in health promotion funding

ACT Minister for Health, Katy Gallagher MLA today announced the opening of the ACT Health Promotion Grants Program 2010/11 Community Funding Round.

Ms Gallagher said funding of $1.25 million was being offered through this round to support projects that promote good health and prevent chronic disease.

“Community groups, not-for-profit organisations and government agencies are encouraged to apply for projects that focus on ACT Health’s key priorities,” she said.

“These include healthy eating, physical activity, smoking reduction, chronic disease prevention, mental health promotion and environmental sustainability and health. ACT Health also identifies Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health as a significant target area for action.”

Ms Gallagher said the ACT Government was committed to reducing the burden of chronic disease whilst encouraging people to maintain positive health and well-being.

“In particular, the ACT Government is committed to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health,” Ms Gallagher said.

“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations are strongly encouraged to apply for funding through the Community Funding Round.”
