ACT Labor to help Canberra businesses export to the world

ACT Labor believes in a strong and diverse local economy.  We know jobs and our high standard of living depend on an economy that continues to grow and thrive.

ACT Labor recently released the Business Development Strategy – Growth, Diversification and Jobs – and Labor’s nation-leading tax reform – has delivered tax cuts and funding increases to businesses in order to support and grow private industry and our economy – and to grow jobs.

One of the ways we have done this is to lower payroll tax – a tax on jobs.

Canberra is now the lowest payroll taxing jurisdiction in the country for small and medium businesses and, according to a recent survey, we have seen a massive spike in business confidence *

If we are to keep our economy growing and Canberrans in jobs, it is important future governments continue this support.  ACT Labor stands by the tax cuts delivered to business in the 2012-13 Budget – including cuts to payroll tax, insurance tax and stamp duty and commits to keeping these tax cuts if re-elected.

If re-elected, ACT Labor will also commit $3.1 million to encourage Canberra businesses to connect to our global market and export their products and expertise.

This will see support for Canberra businesses wanting to export goods and services to the world, through our GlobalConnect grants program.

This funding will continue the ACT Labor Governments very successful trade missions with businesses to overseas markets – the next one of which will be to Indonesia in 2013.

It will also fund a grants program to assist small companies to export their products and the International Student Ambassador Program.

This $3.1million of new funding comes on top of the $20 million funded by ACT Labor in the 2012-13 Budget for growing business and our economy.
