First EU visit in 30 years celebrated with symbolic planting at the National Arboretum

Visited the National Arboretum yesterday to plant a tree with his Excellency Mr Jose Manuel Barroso. He was good enough to find 1/2 hour in his schedule to plant a European Beech in the Central Valley. It was the first time in 30 years that the President has visited Australia and we were so pleased that he was able to come a visit a small piece of our beautiful city. There was a little bit of rain before the tree planting but right on time the sun started to shine and we were all able to put the umbrellas away! Also saw Dr Brendan Nelson, Australia's Ambassador to the European Union, at the ceremony and he was looking great. A message to all that there is life after politics.
