Had a great time today at the Canberra Hospital talking with Dry July organiser Phil Grove and can I say what an amazing guy he is. Phil started by raising some funds for a local hospital after his own run in with ill health back in 2002 and now, 9 years on he's part of an annual multi-million dollar fundraising effort that supports 13 hospitals arounds the country.
Phil is a motivating speaker and today he convinced me to take part in Dry July next year ( maybe its sounds easier to sign up in September when the hard work is months away ). Nearly 400 Canberran’s took part this year and have raised $87+k for the public cancer services in the ACT. Last year’s donation was well spent on improving the amenity of the palliative care rooms on ward 14b at the Canberra Hospital.
So thank you to Phil, the Dry July board members, the participants and the staff involved and as I said today Dry July is a clear example of good people doing great things that make a difference to many.
Thank you also to the fab staff that we have working in oncology and cancer services in both the public and private systems. You all do an amazing job.
